The word “Word” has an interesting meaning. It is the Greek word, “Logos” where we get the English word logo. A logo is a symbol or image that represents a company or brand for something.
In the beginning, God spoke words and life began. The Word, Logos, was with God and all things were made through Him as if His logo or stamp was on it all.
God was branding before blogging, companies and graphic designers every thought of what a logo is!
What was the first thing God and the Word created on day 1? Light!
Here again in Genesis 1, and John 1, we have the two passages in the Bible talking about creation and the beginning and both of them are talking about light.
Genesis 1, has a light that existed before the sun, moon and stars were created on day 4.
John 1, tells us the light shines in darkness and darkness has not overcome it.
Now let’s move over to 1 John 1:1-4 (Isn’t it interesting how chapters and verses lay out? John is going to write about something very familiar to his John 1 writings.
1 John 1:1-4
That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life–
2 the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us–
3 that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ.
4 And we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.
Now when we think about who Jesus is and know Him, we can walk and live as believers and children of Light mentioned in John 1:12, which is our memory verse for this lesson.
1 John 1:5-10
This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.
6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.
7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
10 If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
When we know Jesus, we live and walk this life different from the rest of the world. His light changes us and illuminates into the dark places we try to hide.
