So many times we forget that what we see laid out in pretty grids and postings is not always the truth or the way it is day to day in that person’s life. It becomes hard remember who you are, especially for girls.
We are bombarded every day with options telling us who we are, whose we are, or what we should be doing. They are geared to distract us.
Some even lure you to purchase something so that you will be “be” something more.
Strangely enough, that’s exactly the tactic Satan used to confuse and tempt Eve in the Garden of Eden.
He distracted Eve, questioned her with, “Did God really say….”, and then convinced her she was lacking something and could be “more”. Girl, remember who you are and whose you are and you won’t come up feeling less than!
What if Eve had only remembered what God had said after He had created man and woman. He looked at His Creation and said it was, “Very good.”
When did “very good” not become good enough?
Well, the answer is when we listen to something other than God, the Creator, who designed us and tells us who we are.
We’re not saying all social media is bad. No, instead there is the possibility to share God’s perspective of who you are. When we turn to social media to find our identity instead of God, we’ll find ourselves lacking.
Some influencers do post their own struggles to show the “behind” the scenes in their lives and remind you of the realities of life.
Funny enough, those postings are usually made in their stories that are forgotten after 24 hours while their “pretty” is posted in the 9 picture grid or scroll.
Which one will we remember and compare ourselves to?
Yeah, the pretty. You’ll compare yourself to things in the world and forget what God says about you in the Word.
We all do it.
That’s why it is so important to go back to Scripture to see who we are, whose we are and our purpose… not social media.
Ephesians 3:20
Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us,
Look at yourself through God’s eyes and see yourself as His reflection.
2 Corinthians 3:16-18
But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed.
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.
Colossians 3:9-10
Do not lie to one another, seeing that you have put off the old self with its practices and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge after the image of its creator.
Ephesians 4:20-24
But that is not the way you learned Christ!–
assuming that you have heard about him and were taught in him, as the truth is in Jesus, to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.
You are a girl who belongs to God, one of His chosen people. That’s who you are and whose you are!
● You are a light and an example of Christ to those around you.
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people, but now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.
Dear friends, I urge you, as aliens and strangers in the world, to abstain from sinful desires, which war against your soul. Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us. 1 Peter 2:9-12
● You are a girl who is the aroma of Christ.
But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of him. For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. 2 Corinthians 2:14-15
● You are a girl whom may approach God with freedom and confidence.
In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him. Ephesians 3:12
● You are the daughter of a King, and the bride of Christ.
The king is enthralled by your beauty; honor him, for he is your lord. Psalm 45:11
● You are fearfully and wonderfully made.
O LORD, you have searched me and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O LORD. Psalm 139:1-4
● You are a girl who is known from the inside out.
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. Psalm 139:13-16
● You were created with a purpose for reverent worship
Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe,Hebrews 12:28
Do not compare yourself to others is easy to say and hard to do. So when you find yourself comparing, feeling less than or that you should be like someone else, remember who God says you are. You are unique and His design. That makes you more than enough and dearly loved!
Instead of comparing yourself to someone else’s 9 grid Instagram post and feeling less than, see yourself as God sees you.
Precious girl, remember who you are and whose you are.
